Smoking? or Non-Smoking?

Thursday, April 26th, 2007   Uncategorized

You know one thing that has been really nice lately in restaurants is not to have to answer the question, “Smoking? or Non-Smoking?” Since the state of Ohio passed a law that smoking was not allowed in public buildings, it has been better to not have to put up with smoke while you’re trying to eat.

We’re getting ready to begin a very short, but very important, new series at Quest.
sorns_title_copy.jpg It is entitled “Smoking? or Non-Smoking” and it will deal with the question of eternity. Where will you end up? Smoking as you are on fire for eternity? or will you choose Non-Smoking in which you will live with God forever?

We will experience a bit of heaven and a bit of hell on each night that we study eternity.

So here are the dates because I don’t want you to miss your opportunity to invite your friends and come find out what the afterlife is all about.

May 2 – Smoking or Non-Smoking: Heaven
May 9 – Smoking or Non-Smoking: Hell

Stupid Video of the Week: Hot Pockets

Monday, April 23rd, 2007   Uncategorized

Hey guys. New stupid video of the week for you:

Jim Gaffigan is hillarious. The first time I heard him, I almost couldn’t breathe because I laughed so hard. He has a point though. Those of you who have tried “Hot Pockets” know exactly what he means. Those of you who haven’t, don’t even try them. I mean that.

Some company created this really bad product and then marketed them in a way that makes you want to try them. Some of the flavors they come in are: Chicken & Broccoli with Cheese, Baked Potato, Meatball Marinara, and my personal favorite, Chicken Parmesan. Any one you try though, leaves a nasty taste in your mouth.

It’s just like sin. Sin comes in a very attractive package and you say to yourself, “Wow. That looks pretty good. I think I’ll try that.” The problem is the result. Sin has this habit of leaving a nasty taste in your soul. It’s dealing with the temptation of giving in to sin that you need to watch out for.

James said it best: “Don’t blame God when you are tempted! God cannot be tempted by evil, and he doesn’t use evil to tempt others. We are tempted by our own desires that drag us off and trap us. Our desires make us sin, and when sin is finished with us, it leaves us dead.” (James 1:13-15, CEV)

So this week, don’t give in to your desires and flirt with sin. Because sin, when it is finished with you can only lead to death, just as a Hot Pocket will only lead you to the toilet.

Have a great week.

Stupid Video of the Week: Le Parkour “Free-Running”

Thursday, April 19th, 2007   Uncategorized

Hey guys. Here is your stupid video of the week:

DISCLAIMER: DO NOT TRY ANY OF THE STUNTS SEEN ON THESE VIDEOS !!!!!

I just recently started hearing about “Le Parkour” or as it’s known in the U.S., “Free Running.” I see these guys jumping off buildings and garages, grabbing ropes and contorting their bodies to fit into tight spaces. These guys are impressive.

The problem is that they don’t tell you about what really happens in the world of “Le Parkour.”

Here is a second video that shows the real world of “Free-Running.”

If you eventually play the game long enough you will get hurt. This guy, from France, tried to do free-running from one building to another, but he didn’t quite make it. He ended up shattering most of the bones in his hip and breaking or fracturing almost 30 other bones. He is now confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life for trying a stupid stunt that means nothing to him now.

That’s how we are in life. We like to flirt on the edge of disaster with sin. And it’s like “Le Parkour.” The guys doing this are impressive to watch, but eventually their luck will run out and they’ll get hurt. You will to if you mess with sin. It is not a game you can play and win.

If there is a sin you’ve been flirting with in your life. Take a moment right now and ask God to help you to walk away from that sin. Know that he will help you in your time of need and that when we have God, we can “run free” in Him.

Have a great week.

Stupid Video: Gopher Broke

Friday, April 13th, 2007   Uncategorized

Hey guys, we haven’t had a stupid video in awhile, so I found an extra special one for you:

It’s so funny how we as humans try our hardest to fulfill the American Dream. We try to collect as many material possesions as we can, trying to fulfill the addage, “He who dies with the most toys wins.”

God has a different idea for us. In Luke 12, Jesus tells a story of a rich man who decides that he doesn’t have big enough barns for his grain. So he decides to tear them down and build bigger barns. The problem? His attitude towards life. He said, “I will take life easy; eat, drink, and be happy.” But God said to him, “You fool! This night your life will be demanded from you.”

Jesus warns us, “Don’t be greedy! Owning a lot of things won’t make your life safe.”

Perhaps they should change the addage to this: “He who dies with the most toys…still dies.”

Have a great week.
