Smoking? or Non-Smoking?

Thursday, April 26th, 2007   current series

You know one thing that has been really nice lately in restaurants is not to have to answer the question, “Smoking? or Non-Smoking?” Since the state of Ohio passed a law that smoking was not allowed in public buildings, it has been better to not have to put up with smoke while you’re trying to eat.

We’re getting ready to begin a very short, but very important, new series at Quest.
sorns_title_copy.jpg It is entitled “Smoking? or Non-Smoking” and it will deal with the question of eternity. Where will you end up? Smoking as you are on fire for eternity? or will you choose Non-Smoking in which you will live with God forever?

We will experience a bit of heaven and a bit of hell on each night that we study eternity.

So here are the dates because I don’t want you to miss your opportunity to invite your friends and come find out what the afterlife is all about.

May 2 - Smoking or Non-Smoking: Heaven
May 9 - Smoking or Non-Smoking: Hell

Stupid Video of the Week: Hot Pockets

Monday, April 23rd, 2007   stupid videos

Hey guys. New stupid video of the week for you:

Jim Gaffigan is hillarious. The first time I heard him, I almost couldn’t breathe because I laughed so hard. He has a point though. Those of you who have tried “Hot Pockets” know exactly what he means. Those of you who haven’t, don’t even try them. I mean that.

Some company created this really bad product and then marketed them in a way that makes you want to try them. Some of the flavors they come in are: Chicken & Broccoli with Cheese, Baked Potato, Meatball Marinara, and my personal favorite, Chicken Parmesan. Any one you try though, leaves a nasty taste in your mouth.

It’s just like sin. Sin comes in a very attractive package and you say to yourself, “Wow. That looks pretty good. I think I’ll try that.” The problem is the result. Sin has this habit of leaving a nasty taste in your soul. It’s dealing with the temptation of giving in to sin that you need to watch out for.

James said it best: “Don’t blame God when you are tempted! God cannot be tempted by evil, and he doesn’t use evil to tempt others. We are tempted by our own desires that drag us off and trap us. Our desires make us sin, and when sin is finished with us, it leaves us dead.” (James 1:13-15, CEV)

So this week, don’t give in to your desires and flirt with sin. Because sin, when it is finished with you can only lead to death, just as a Hot Pocket will only lead you to the toilet.

Have a great week.
