The Contrabass Saxophone

I knew that they existed, having studied Music at San Diego State University, yet I still watched with an open mouth of awe at this monstrosity, the contrabass saxophone. Apparently, there are only about 25 in existence. maybe that’s because the contrabass is quite large (about 6 foot 4 inches) and heavy (45 lbs).

Here’s Marcel W. Helland playing a few bits on his deeply honkerifous (I’m not sure that’s a word) contrabass sax:
