Don’t Fret Over Spilled Milk
03/31/2010 11:59 amSo in light of the current Easter season, I figured I would discuss this idea of the blood of Jesus. I was reading through Mark 14 this morning (for reasons totally not related to Easter). I came across this verse. It is verse 24 and it is Jesus talking and He says this–”This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many.” (NIV) This got me really thinking about one word in that: Poured. What does it mean that it is poured out? Why is that important or significant or even relevant?
Have you ever heard someone say that Jesus spilled out his blood for our sins? This is why it is important and significant and definitely relevant to us. The word spilled implies that it was accidental that his blood was shed. It says that Jesus didn’t mean to die for us on the cross, but rather He was a victim of the false accusations and murder of the pharisees. On the contrary, to say that Jesus poured His blood out for us shows us that Jesus knew exactly what He was doing. It was no accident that Jesus died, but rather a choice. Jesus chose to die for you and for me, despite all the sin that we commit everyday. Despite the fact that we often go through an entire week and don’t bother to think of Him once until Sunday. Despite the fact that we forsake His commands and even deny him like Peter under the pressure of others. Despite all of this, Jesus CHOSE to die for us.
So on this Easter season, don’t forget about the choice that Jesus made for you.
