Tune Up
04/10/2010 3:58 pmSo yesterday, I took my bass to my brother’s house. It needed a tune up. The action (The height of the strings) was too low and the intonation (how well it stays in tune as you get higher up the neck). So I got it all taken care of and my bass now plays like a dream and sounds much better.
This got me thinking though. How easy is it for us to get a little bit out of tune ourselves? I mean a bass can get pretty out of whack simply by playing it a lot and changing the tuning and tuning it often. That seems to be pretty much what it takes to be a bass. I mean a bass is suppose to be played right?
Well, as Christians, it is pretty easy to get pretty out of tune with God just by doing exactly what we are supposed to do. We are designed for ministry and evangelism and worship of God. But often, we direct all of our energy outward. We forget that we are meant to worship God personally too. Have you ever thought about why God rested on the seventh day? It wasn’t because God was tired and just really needed a break. Nope, God was instead giving us an example. He was showing us that it is good for us to rest.
So we are gonna sleep in till 6pm and and then sit around and watch TV, right? I mean that is how we are supposed to rest? No. That isn’t what God is wanting, or what is best for us. In Psalm 46:10, one of the Sons of Korah wrote this..”‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’” We are to meditate on his word. If we direct our energy all the time outwardly, we tend to get really burnt out on doing what He wants. That is because we don’t spend enough time resting and listening to what He is telling us.
So this weekend, take some time out for yourself to read your Bible, or sing a song to God by yourself, or just sit in prayer. But whatever you do, make certain that it is to deepen your personal relationship with God.
