Prune Juice Is Not Something We All Want

04/15/2010 2:16 pm   Random Thoughts

Ok, so I can’t really take credit for this particular random thought, but I heard it today and it got me pondering so I decided to share it with you. We had a guest speaker today in chapel. He was preaching on John 15 which is where Jesus is the vine and we are the branches (Yes we will be discussing this at some point on Sunday morning, so I can’t give away all my secrets haha). Anyway, he brought up something that I had never really noticed or thought about.

Jesus says that God cuts off every branch that bears no fruit, but he also says that every branch that does bear fruit will be pruned. What is the significance of this? Well, it means that if you don’t bear fruit, you will be cut. And if you do…you will be cut. Hmm….

Here is why. Even when you are being fruitful and doing the things that God wants you to do, He will still cut things out of your life so that you can be MORE fruitful next season.  Just because we are doing things that are good and seem like they benefit the Kingdom. We will change every season.  For instance, for a very long time, I stayed very involved in the praise band at the church where I grew up. I would drive back for practices and playing. It was a good thing. I was helping serve in the Kingdom. However, it was a time commitment that I just didn’t and couldn’t make, so even though I didn’t want to, God cut it out of my life.  It reminds me of something Perry Noble said (If you don’t know who Perry Noble is, ask Mike Edmiston; he’ll fill you in). He said, “You have to say ‘no’ to the good, to say ‘yes’ to the great.”

So I ask you this….What good things are you going to have to say no to?

Are you willing to say YES to the GREAT?

I’ve read it many times and never considered the fact that God prunes the healthy vines too. I like it.
